What is an Open World?

An Open World is an entire forum dedicated to users playing out a large-scale single roleplay. These types of roleplays often have many characters, and may tell separate or interweaving storylines in a world created by the OW Gamemaster. They are an ambitious venture, and are reserved for stories that cannot be told, or worlds that cannot be explored, in just one forum thread.

Nifty! How do I get one?

First, you must be a member of the site for a minimum of three months. Second, you must be in good standing with the site, meaning no recent serious rule infractions. Third, you must agree to moderate your OW in accordance with the RPS site rules as well as any rules you decide to implement yourself. Fourth, you must fill out the application linked below.

Open World Activity Rules

- If an Open World is inactive for three months, it will be archived.
- For three months after being initially archived, a moderator of the OW will be able to PM a staff member to have it be reinstated to the active OW board.
- An Open World may be reinstated up to twice.
- If an Open World is archived, and no moderator of the OW requests it be restored within three months of it being archived, then the Open World will be permanently archived.

What Counts as Activity?

- In Character posts.
- Relevant (non-spam or chatting) Out of Character posts that relate to plotting.
- If an OW moderator is found to be abusing the activity rules to keep an Open World from being archived, i.e., posting once every three months without any other activity, the OW will be archived.

Open World Moderator Activity Rules

- If no moderators of an Open World post, either IC or OOC, within it for two months, then an active member of that OW may PM a staff member to request moderator status. This member must be in good site standing for the next steps to take place.
- The founder of the Open World will be contacted by staff and advised that a member of their Open World is requesting moderation status. The founder will have one week to respond to the notice. If they fail to do so, the requesting member will be awarded moderator status.
- This is done because RPS encourages active moderation in all facets of the site, including the user-created Open Worlds. Without active moderation, the OW runs a much greater risk of falling inactive than with it.
